Exotic lingerie can be harder to find, as well as harder to buy, because it differs so much from traditional lingerie. Traditional lingerie, such as bra and panty sets, silky teddies, babydolls, and nightgowns, are much more “tame” than exotic lingerie. Exotic lingerie is usually things like bustiers and corsets, but even goes beyond that. Many pieces of truly exotic lingerie are incredibly revealing and include such items as body stockings and strappy leather teddies. They come in a very wide variety of styles, colors, and construction. Some are strappy and made of materials such as nylon, fishnet, and leather or vinyl. Others are lacy or made of mesh and see through. This would include items such as sheer bra and bikini or thong sets, chemises and teddies.
Buying intimate apparel, especially exotic lingerie, can prove to be a challenge. Many department stores care basic lines of intimate apparel, but generally nothing too risqué. More exotic pieces can often be found at specialty shops or through catalogs at lingerie parties, but even here, styles may be limited. Your best bet for a good selection as well as good prices is the Internet.
Be warned, however, because shopping for clothing online can be tricky. Once you have found a piece you like, be sure to check out several things. First, look at the manufacturer or seller’s size charts before buying. One person’s small is another person’s medium, and you don’t want to be surprised when it finally arrives. Second, take a look at return and exchange policies. Because exotic lingerie is highly intimate by nature, it is not unusual for retailers to institute strict return policies. Generally, you will need to have kept the tags on the piece and it should obviously be unworn. Other retailers may only offer a return or exchange if it was the wrong item or has not been removed from the original packaging. Some may not offer returns at all. In this case it is very important to make sure you’ve selected the correct item and size before submitting your order.
